Αbstract:	Το εργαστήριο αυτό δίνει την ευκαιρία να διερευνηθεί η μεγάλη ποικιλία υπηρεσιών που προσφέρονται από την Ιταλική Εθνική Υπηρεσία για βιβλιοθήκες. Θα πλοηγηθούμε στις ιστοσελίδες που επιτρέπουν πρόσβαση στο Εθνικό Ευρετήριο καθώς επίσης και στον συλλογικό κατάλογο για τον εντοπισμό όλων των τεκμηρίων, ανεξάρτητα από το που βρίσκονται. Θα επιδειχθούν διαφορετικές προσεγγίσεις για βιβλιογραφική έρευνα μέσω πολλαπλών παραδειγμάτων ερωτημάτων, καθώς επίσης και μέθοδοι ελαχιστοποίησης των ερωτημάτων για όλα τα πιθανά αποτελέσματα που είναι διασκορπισμένα σε όλον τον εθνικό χώρο. Με τον τρόπο αυτό, η μοναδική αυτή προσπάθεια να επιδειχθούν όλα τα τεκμήρια σε εθνικό επίπεδο, θα γίνει μια λειτουργική προσέγγιση στην επιστήμη και τη γνώση: μια συντήρηση του παρελθόντος καθώς επίσης και μια κατάδυση στο μέλλον. This workshop is an opportunity to explore the rich variety of services provided by the Italian National Service for libraries. It will enable us to surf through the website which will give access to the National Index as well as the collective catalogue to locate all the documents, no matter where they are located. It will show the different approaches to bibliographic research through various example of queries as well as the methods to optimize queries by simulating all the possible results scatted throughout the national territory. In this way this unique attempt to show all the documents on national level will become an operational approach to science and knowledge: a preservation for the past as well as a springboard into the future.

Αρχισε τη σταδιοδρομία του στην βιβλιοθήκη του Ρωμαϊκού Καθολικού Πανεπιστημίου στο Μιλάνο, όπου εργάστηκε στον κεντρικό κατάλογο. Ταξινόμηση και καταλογογράφηση ήταν οι κύριες δραστηριότητές του μεταξύ των ετών 1976 και 1982. Το επόμενο έτος διορίστηκε Διευθυντής της ακαδημαϊκής βιβλιοθήκης του Πανεπιστημίου στη Μπρέσια (Brescia), περίπου 40 μίλια ανατολικά του Μιλάνου, όπου στη συνέχεια διορίστηκε Διευθυντής του Συστήματος Δημοσίων Βιβλιοθηκών την εποχή που άρχισε να αναδιοργανώνεται, με την εισαγωγή των νέων ηλεκτρονικών τεχνολογιών. Τελικά διορίστηκε στο Μιλάνο το 2007. Μέλος της τοπικής εκτελεστικής επιτροπής της Ιταλικής Ένωσης Βιβλιοθηκονόμων (A.I.B.) μεταξύ του 1994 και 1999. Πρόεδρος της Ένωσης Βιβλιοφίλων στη Μπρέσια (Brescia) μεταξύ των ετών 1993 και 2007, σύμβουλος στη Bozen για τη δημιουργία της Ακαδημαϊκής βιβλιοθήκης μεταξύ των ετών 1999 και 2005 καθώς επίσης και σύμβουλος για τη νέα επαρχιακή βιβλιοθήκη, επίσης στη Bozen από το 2006. Έπαιξε σημαντικό ρόλο την προώθηση διαλέξεων, συνεδρίων και πολιτιστικών συναντήσεων στις βιβλιοθήκες τόσο σε εθνικό όσο και σε διεθνές επίπεδο. Η επόμενη πρόκληση θα είναι η IFLA 2009 στο Μιλάνο. Aldo Pirola is Director of the Public Library System in Milan, which consists of 24 interconnected facilities, scattered on a territory with 1 million inhabitants. He started his career in the library of the Roman Catholic University in Milan where he used to work at the central catalogue. Classification and cataloguing were his primary activities between 1976 and 1982.The following year he was appointed Director of the Academic library of the University in Brescia, some 40 miles to the east in Milan, where subsequently he was appointed Director of the public library system at the time in which it was being reorganized through the introduction of the new electronic technologies. Eventually he was appointed in Milan in 2007. Member of the local executive committee of the Italian Librarian Association (A.I.B.) between 1994 and 1999, President of the Association of Bibliophiles in Brescia between 1993 and 2007, advisor in Bozen for the foundation of the Academic library between 1999 and 2005 as well as advisor for the new provincial library, still in Bozen, since 2006, he has played a significant role in promoting lectures, conferences and cultural meetings in libraries both on a national and on an international level. The next challenge will be IFLA 2009 in Milan. Aldo Pirola was awarded a special prize by the Rotary Club in Brescia for his role in promoting the activity of the local public libraries.
