Η Barbara Schleihagen είναι βιβλιοθηκoνόμος με εμπειρία και κατάρτιση σε θέματα βιβλιοθηκών. Είναι κάτοχος Μεταπτυχιακού Διπλώματος (MSc Econ) στη «Διοίκηση Βιβλιοθηκών και Υπηρεσιών Πληροφόρησης» από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Ουαλίας. Μετά την ολοκλήρωση των σπουδών της εργάστηκε σε διάφορες θέσεις στη χάραξη εξωτερικής πολιτιστικής πολιτικής. Η ενασχόλησή της με τη Διεθνή ένωση Βιβλιοθηκών (IFLA) ξεκινά από το 1997. Είναι μέλος της IFLA από το 2001 και μέλος της Επιτροπής IFLA / FAIFE (Ελεύθερη Πρόσβαση στην Πληροφορία και στην Ελευθερία της Έκφρασης) κατά τα έτη 2002-2007. Από το 2007 είναι μέλος της Standing Committee του IFLA Management of Library Associations section και μάλιστα είναι η τωρινή Chair του section. Από το 2013 υπηρετεί ως η Γερμανίδα εκπρόσωπος στο ΝΑΡLE, στην ευρωπαϊκή μη κυβερνητική ένωση που υπερασπίζεται τα συμφέροντα των εθνικών αρχών των βιβλιοθηκών των κρατών μελών στην Ευρώπη. Παράλληλα ασκεί τα καθήκοντα της αναπληρώτριας chair τόσο στο Εκτελεστικό Συμβούλιο του «Ιδρύματος για την Ανάγνωση» όσο και στο Συμβουλευτικό Συμβούλιο του «Ιδρύματος για τις Ψηφιακές Δυνατότητες». * Barbara Schleihagen is Executive Director of the German Library Association representing about 10,000 libraries and based in Berlin, Germany. She is a trained librarian and holds a Master degree (MSc Econ) in “Management of Libraries and Information Services” of the University of Wales. After completion of her studies she worked in various positions in foreign cultural policy. Her engagement in the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) goes back to 1997, when she gave a presentation on European lobbying for libraries as EBLIDA director. She is a personal member of IFLA since 2001, and was member of the IFLA/FAIFE (Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression) Committee between 2002 -2007. In 2007, she was elected member of the IFLA Governing Board (re-elected for the second term 2009-2011), in which she also served as IFLA’s treasurer. Since 2007, she is as a member of the Standing Committee of the IFLA Management of Library Associations section, currently serving as “Chair”. In this capacity, she is again a member of the IFLA Governing Board 2015-2017. Since 2013, she is the German representative in NAPLE, the European non-governmental association pursuing the interests of the national library authorities in Europe, deputy chair of the Executive Board of the “Reading Foundation” and deputy chair of the Advisory Board of the “Foundation Digital Opportunities”.
